What charge limit you guys set on Linux?

so you can prolong your laptop’s battery life.

20-80% or 40-80%?

In KDE, it can already be done easily in “Power Management” system settings, while in GNOME, you need an extension.

20-80 was the recommendation that I remember.

I just time myself manually.

40-80% on my laptop/mobile devices.
my laptop server is pinned at 50%

I have mine at 100%, but I use a framework so the battery is easy to swap.

Normally I would use 80%, I do on my pixel for example.

Really, you should charge between 20 - 40% to 80%, don’t get a charger that is stupidly fast, stick to the same watts / volts / amps the OEM does.

If you use something like a Dell Latitude or Lenovo (especially the old think pads), I wouldn’t worry too much, the batteries are usually easy to source and swap, latitudes can be swapped out in about 5 mins.

Depending on my usage patterns I usually have the:

  • charge cutoff (ceiling) between 80-95%
  • charge resume point between 40-70%
  • and I try not to dip below 20% too often (floor)
