I have my own public IP address and I want to keep it private. I’m currently using ProtonVPN, and I used Mullvad before.
My problem is that using VPNs is becoming more difficult. Many websites seem to detect VPN connections, which causes issues like getting flagged, constantly seeing CAPTCHAs (the ‘prove you’re human’ tests), or even getting blocked.
It’s getting tiring trying to find a VPN that works smoothly without these problems.
Are there other ways to hide my real IP address? Maybe something like proxies?
I liked Mullvad, but I ran into the same issues where websites detected the VPN connection more and more often.
Is there any way to balance using a service like this for privacy without constantly running into these detection problems?
Privacy Pass was created as a solution to this. I’m not sure how well the extension works, but I use iOS which uses Private Access Tokens based on the Privacy Pass protocol, if you’re on an Apple device you can enable that to bypass a lot of CAPTCHAs. There’s also a proposed browser API called Private State Tokens that would give similar functionality built into the browser but that hasn’t materialized yet.
Thanks for the suggestion. That’s really interesting, especially since I use Apple devices at home (though I also use Linux and Windows remotely for specific software). It sounds like a good potential solution for reducing the constant CAPTCHAs, and I’ll definitely look into it and try it out. Thank you!
My other main concern, though, is about accounts getting flagged when using a VPN. I’ve briefly looked into things like antidetect browsers, but I have serious doubts about their privacy and security,
