I currently use Mullvad VPN on all my devices but I’m interested in using a mesh VPN/virtual LAN software so I can connect to my self-hosted services privately (e.g. being able to connect to Nextcloud on a home server from my phone). Does anyone have any recommendations for this that work well in combination with regular VPNs?
Tailscale has an integration with Mullvad but they don’t accept cryptocurrency as payment, making it non-anonymous as a provider.
I have netbird running on a VPS. My crowning achievement so far is that I can access all of my self-hosted content and I can access it via the same ‘serviceName.lan’ address that I use locally in spite of having no ports open on my home network. I used tailscale previously and had to use TailscaleIP:port instead which was not a big deal but an adjustment.
Also worth noting that I’m more concerned with general privacy (ISP/random websites) than government surveillance, so the VPS is in my name, but a quick search shows some VPS do accept monero apparently.
Hi all, I’m new to forum and website. I’m in a similar situation except that I’m under CGNAT: my setup at home is based on a Raspberry Pi connected to wifi and providing access to my hard disk (emulating a NAS). Now I’d like to connect to internal LAN from outside and, based on what I’ve read from many articles on the web and on this website, what I’ve learnt is that probably Netbird (cloud based because of CGNAT) is a valid solution to avoid port forwarding. What do you think? Feel free to suggest any other alternatives.
Netbird, Tailscale, and Zerotier are all good options.
When I used to be behind CGNAT, I used to use Tailscale, but eventually moved to Wireguard on a VPS with a hub and spoke setup. However, It does take a little bit to setup.
I would say go for Tailscale though as it is the easiest option.
