Tidal with Obtainium?

Hi all!
I use Tidal daily but run a de-Googled Android device with Graphene and avoid Google Play. I found Tidal’s Android source on GitHub (https://github.com/tidal-music/tidal-sdk-android) but couldn’t find a downloadable APK or a way to add it to Obtainium.

Does anyone know how to obtain an official Tidal APK (signed release) or otherwise install Tidal via Obtainium or without Google Play and Aurora Store?

If an official APK isn’t available, does anyone have experience building a usable APK from the repository and can share a simple, safe process or resources?

Also, does anyone have experience using SoundCrowd (https://github.com/soundcrowd/soundcrowd) with Tidal? Is it safe to use with the Tidal API, or should I avoid it if I can’t audit the code? I’m not very tech-savvy and can’t review the code myself.

Thanks for any advice or personal experiences.

The SDK is just a toolbox to build around any potential idea you have when it comes down to Tidal. I do not think that you could build the Android mobile .apk out of it.

You can always try some Aurora Store without any Google Services if on GrapheneOS, wouldn’t be too bad of a move overall. No easy updates but probably better than nothing. :+1:t2:

No reason for it to not be safe in itself.
You will go through a 3rd party and an account is required but it is as secure as any other wrapper around Tidal’s API.

What are you overall trying to avoid by doing all of this?

I am also a Tidal GOS user. Have you tried using Tidal as a web app?

This might solve your concern of having to rely on Google Play. The web app won’t need updates, but I will mention that Tidal’s web app has two issues for me, that may or may not be a deal breaker. It can not do any offline downloads and does not display lyrics.

If those are not too big of an issue for you I would say use the web app or do as @kissu suggests with Aurora Store.

I do not want to use Aurora Store due to safety concerns.
I just want to be able to use Tidal APP on GrapheneOS without installing it via the Google Play Store or Aurora Store.

If the app i mentioned in the OP (SoundCrowd) works and is safe that could be a work-around but as I mentioned, i’m not very tech-savy so I do not know exactly how it works.

I have tried the web app, unfortunately it does not work as well as i would like.
I have problems with playback getting interrupted whenever the screen locks and I need offline playlists at work when I do not have a connection to mobile service.
I mean, I guess I could download music to my phone and use a music app to listen, but I’d rather not.

What safety concerns? Aurora is recommended by PG now

Oh is it, it was not last time i checked. But that is cool. Maybe I’ll try it out then.

Sorry was late on the link, yes

There is indeed nothing wrong with Aurora itself, you’ll source it anonymously.
And most apps like Tidal/etc won’t have a GOS-friendly available .apk on Github.
You should be glad that there is some 3rd app that works with it, not all of them are in that boat (some websites are very hostile to FOSS).
