Thinking of switching to GOS

Hi. I finally managed to buy a Pixel 8 (my first Pixel ever). I am very happy with my experience so far in a week of use. I had planned to install GOS right away but decided to try Android Stock for a while. Still, I want to switch to GOS soon. The issue of finding alternatives to most Google apps won’t be a major problem, as I already use several for a long time, such as ente, fairemail, proton, keepassdx, notesnook, brave, etc. However, there are a few things I don’t want to sacrifice yet and would like to know from your actual experience if I won’t have any inconveniences with them:

  1. Pixel Camera/Google Photos: I know GOS has its own camera but I’m not interested in giving up Pixel Camera as I like it better. I don’t use GP to save backups as I use ente, I only use it for its editing features. I would like to know if the experience will be exactly the same, with the camera and editing features, including the magic editor, the option to enhance the audio of the videos, among others.
  2. GPS: It’s not something I use every day but I would hate to need it and not be able to use it. Occasionally I work for a Geology/topography company so I have to have Google Maps, Google Earth and on rare occasions Waze on hand to see traffic. It’s a very sporadic use but as I said, it’s better to be able to use it when I need it.
  3. Passkeys in ProtonPass or Bitwarden: that’s it. Is it possible to create and save them as in stock android?

Also, maybe not so necessary but I personally like the customization options of Android Stock, like themed icons, Material You, Always On Display. I would like to know if with GOS I will have any of that or no customization at all.

I also thought I read that it doesn’t have face unlock, is there no option to enable it?

As a curiosity since I don’t really use anything related to virtual assistants, but could i use gemini if I wanted to at some point or Google App features like Circle to search?

I won’t ask about the banking apps because I’ve read enough about it so I can just give it a try and see what happens. I have 2 bank apps and 2 Fintech apps associated with prepaid cards, plus paypal, so I’d like to make it all work.

Thanks.

I can’t speak to the other apps you named since I’ve never used them.

Yes, but it requires installing sandboxed Google Play.

These are all available as well.

There is currently no option to enable it. Here is the reason why there isn’t, in case you’re interested:

Yes, gcam works as in stock, I have not tried gphotos but should be fine I guess? Maybe in the grapheneos forum you can find better answers.

GPS works but if you need network location (for indoor location) you have to install google services and you can have that too.

Yes to all.

Gcam, gps and passkeys all work on GOS just fine.

Customization is possible as you want. And in case you can always install another launcher (like the stock if you want)

Face unlock i am not sure about i wouldnt use that. Its mostly insecure.

You can install any assitstent app.

Banking apps work mostly. What doesnt work is Google Pay. Some other apps that do certaon verifications won’t always work.
