Similar tool like tor

Hello, I’m looking for similar tool like Tor, to give me close privacy, anonimity, security as Tor but fastest is there any? Maybe vpn like mullvad, but would it really be good option for lets say mid/high threat?

I love Tor in context of messaging and browsing, maybe sending small files, but I can’t stand sending 1 gb file for at least 1 hour. No matter what software I use, bcs it’s from kb to few mb max per s. What do you recommend?

I2P but it’s not anonymous if your IP address is revealed to everyone using the network.

But would it be faster?

I read somewhere it’s similar speed like tor

For sending large files or anything which uses up a lot of bandwidth, you shouldn’t be using Tor or anonymizing networks for that anyways.

For anonymity? Not really. Tor is pretty much the best you can get there.

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news and say “deal with it”, but slower download speeds is acceptable for those with higher threat models. You may want to consider getting a download manager or purchasing a low-power mini pc that runs 24/7 for longer downloads/uploads.

EDIT: Also, keep in mind that longer file transfer times means your connection is likely to be disrupted. Your connection is being routed through at least 3 relays, so any downtime experienced by one of these relays will interrupt your transfer.

From personal experience, i2p could be outrun by a glacier

Yggdrasil was much faster than both i2p and tor, but it’s a ghost town, and iirc ygg’s current implementation doesn’t guarantee anonymity

i2p’s garlic routing doesn’t expose your ip address to everyone else on the network, but yggdrasil does

It looks like you are asking for the impossible. There is a trilemma of anonymous communication: high bandwidth, low latency and strong anonymity.

Within that trilemma, Tor sacrifices anonymity for high bandwidth and low latency. If you want faster than Tor, the only viable way I see to gain more bandwidth is to sacrifice anonymity completely by not using Tor; connect directly or via a VPN.

If you really need extra assurance you can alter the LongLivedPorts setting:

Circuits for streams that use these ports will contain only high-uptime nodes

Also since Conflux uses multiple legs to an exit I wonder if that makes circuits more robust too? I’ll have to look into that.

I think you meant Tor sacrifice high bandwidth and low latency for anonymity.

@user1
their wording is correct if you understand the limitations of a mixnet

Tor cannot and does not protect against any global adversary because doing so would dramatically increase latency.

So Tor is “high latency” to an average connection, but it is low latency in the broading scheme of a mixnet.

Uh, I have to dig into this to make sure I understand correctly
