Something else that was brought up in the QnA was using blinded tokens for separating payment from the account, so I think Signal is well equipped to solve the privacy issues with payment.
Hopefully it’s not only Google and Apple payments.

I think even something as simple as a prepaid Visa/Mastercard would be great. I can buy them at a convenience store with cash.
For privacy-concious users they will be willing to pay more because it might be more secure and permanent to not use a phone number but I don’t think spammers will pay unless it’s very cheap because phone numbers can be gotten for very cheap. They are only 14 cents per verification on SMSPool (for US numbers).
The reason I would pay instead to Signal would be to support them and I wouldn’t have to worry about losing the account.
When guessing the price you have to consider that this is an app that wants as many users as possible so I predict that it will be $1 or less.
I think for privacy enthusiasts, they would be willing to pay more. Most people hand over their phone number to get an icecream these days. They wouldn’t even think twice about handing it over to a messaging app. So I don’t see providing a phone number as a barrier to entry for most people.
Especially if they take Monero, I’d be willing to pay way more than $1 in that case. Not only to have the piece of mind my number isn’t connected in any way, but also just to support them. I’d pay $10, as a one off with XMR to get an account. Hell, I’ve to them donated roughly that before anyway.
It could have a minimum and then you can optionally go higher but maybe that wouldn’t be a good idea because donations are gonna be better for taxes and fees.
