Signal has merged numberless accounts into the code as a feature in the upcoming Android beta 8.26, although you can't use it yet.
Please for the love of god accept Monero.

I don’t think Signal will accept Monero although I’m sad to predict this.
They only accept Crypto donations through a service which doesn’t list Monero. The Signal secure backups can be bought through Apple or Google.
They implemented a scam crypto that is still in the app even though you can’t even use it and it’s presented in the app as if it works.
On the other hand, it would make zero sense to only allow paying for an account with Google or Apple because those require phone numbers and bank accounts and credit/debit cards. Which can’t be easier to get than a phone number which you can buy in cash.
Pretty sure this is to comply with the respective app store policies. The in-app donations don’t need to go through Apple/Google because they’re donations, but the cloud backup feature isn’t a donation and thus has to go through Apple/Google if you get the app from one of those app stores.
They should allow paying for it in other ways if you get it from GitHub, but I guess they figure most people doing that will just use local backups. IIRC they are planning to eventually add another way to pay if you get the app outside of the Play Store.
I expect that the numberless accounts will probably function the same way given that they aren’t donations either.
It’s worth noting they don’t support Monero even for one-time donations through their website. They do support Zcash, which is something I guess, but if they support crypto for the numberless accounts at all, then probably the best way to pay would be swapping from Monero to a fresh wallet for something they do support.
Is this actually true? AFAIK it works, although no ones uses it and it’s hard to actually get MobileCoin (partially because it’s not popular, but also because eUSD, which is built on it, is really what’s meant to be used now).
