If its something you use very often keep it. But check settings such as email, password and privacy settings.
Spotify is more of a way to discover new music and such, not as something be relied upon. If there’s an album or track you like then buy from Discogs, Bandcamp, Junodownload or wherever you get your music from. wiki.musichoader.xyz would be a better resource to look at for additional info.
Are any of the big streaming services good in that regard, though?
In my experience, SoundCloud is the only one that’s passable in terms of recommending stuff that sounds remotely close to what you’re listening to, but that’s only for niche electronic mixes and live sets.
I currently use Apple Music (as part of Apple One) and it’s, at least for the music I listen to, utterly useless if you’re the type that searches using record labels.
I like this for music discovery and acquire the mp3 contraband however I may (sometimes Apple Music sometimes direct for indie artists, otherwise torrents + band merch).
I try to avoid feeding the music industry as a musician. My fam uses Spotify for spanish speaking artists from their country. Trying to find better alternatives so we can get off it entirely.
I use Rimusic that is Frontend YouTube Music, I tried to try Innertune but it didn’t work out and apparently doesn’t stay as updated as Rimusic.
Has anyone tried Funkwhale or Audius? They are the only platforms I know to upload music that are decentralized and open source, Funkwhale is integrated with the Fediverse and Audius is based on blockchain. I think you’d be more private alternatives to Spotify, though I haven’t used them.
There isn’t a way to sync Spotify playlists but that should be something easy enough to hack together.
This would be a nail in the coffin for Spotify if I didn’t have an Apple user on my account. That said, setting up the finishing touches for our Jellyfin instance. Later I want to dabble with Funkwhale too.
Thanks. And is there a reason why the music-focused ones work with a vpn while the other ones have been having recurring problems (either via piped or invidious)? Generally what information does YT get?
Basically, the music focused are using a YT API that emulates YouTube Music web client requests.
When you watch directly from YT without changing some settings it collects a good amount of data from users including but not limiting account information, watch history, search queries, device information, location data, and cookies.
