Since Samsung seems to have finally started caring about adding additional security to their Galaxy phones, will the removal of Download Mode (ODIN support) finally hinder access to forensic tools like Cellebrite? I didn’t post some responses from AI because it’s frowned upon here. Did the latest leak of Cellebrite’s capabilities finally hit a nerve with Samsung? …Hopefully it did….
As always, it’s very annoying when companies add restrictions to their existing products in order to “increase their security,” instead of just making features that are secure in the first place.
I agree that hopefully it does at least increase their security though ![]()
I get what you’re saying, Samsung does some things that make no sense when it comes to Android, but from what I’ve been reading and with people that repair phones it seems the Download mode was moved to Maintenance mode, which is supposedly (don’t quote me on this) protected by Knox (ja! Knox, I know I know…)…but yea I agree that hopefully it does increase security on Galaxy phones.
At the expense of locking down user freedom. ![]()
Last cellebrite leak indicated they could just brute force the phone. I think Samsung should spend more time worrying about that…
User freedom was lost on Galaxy phones a while ago, at least here in the US. In some other regions of the world, OEM unlocking might still be available …(As in flashing third-party ROMs)….
They should be doing a lot for sure, like taking some cues from GrapheneOS…or at least Google.
Companies are currently ‘worrying’ so much about security that they’re on the verge of killing android freedom, all these changes end up being a problem with no final benefit.
