PSA: macOS 26.1 broke setting encrypted DNS servers via .mobileconfig

The existing ones work, but you can’t install a new one or replace ones you have. I’ve contacted Mullvad, and they confirmed that neither their profiles nor those of other providers can be installed since macOS version 26.1. I bet it will take forever to fix.

Did you try installing the app and seeing if that works?

What app?

The NextDNS app

I’m not familiar with NextDNS specifically, but apps like this typically act like a local VPN to intercept and encrypt DNS traffic. It’s unrelated to the above issue.

you can also report this in the apple community, they don’t read anything outside of their own community. I had a call with them in regards to this but they hang up on me in the middle of the conversation because they couldn’t understand the issue.

Mullvad said they reached out via Product Feedback - Apple, but that’s about the extent of what anyone can do. It’s not the sort of issue that will get fixed by calling them either.
