Proton VPN removes OpenVPN support on Android

Faster downloads and less storage used: Removing OpenVPN reduces app size by 36%. Also improved speed and efficiency, as WireGuard and Stealth protocols now handle all connections.

Do any here still use Open VPN?

No. WireGuard is fantastic. I have no reason to use OpenVPN.

I do. A very specific use case.

On my iPhone, I use OpenVPN to quickly access my home network and access my private home security system (Blue Iris). Blue Iris is on a separate network (dual NIC’s) and has an iPhone app.

It sounds as though ProtonVPN is simply upgrading their OpenVPN infrastructure, and requiring any legacy OpenVPN configs pre-dating SEPT2023 to be replaced with their improved standard

Edit: I stand corrected, OP is right; as per the release notes on v5.15.70.0, Android users can no longer use OpenVPN through the official Proton client - doing so would require a downloaded config & a third-party app with OpenVPN support

ProtonVPN strategy seems to place all focus on maximally supporting a narrower feature set… for example, Proton also doesnt support SOCKS5, while competitors like Mulvad do.
