One of the biggest cons of sl compared to addy is for cold sending. If to share the same 1 domain with multiple family members or friends, reverse alias will be troublesome since got to login to the sl panel and manually add it there. So either the account owner need to manually add reverse alias each time its needed or share the login details so others can add the reverse alias themselves. Both aren’t ideal.
Addy reverse alias for cold sending is easier since it can be created via a predefined formula no need to login panel and whatnot.
Monetarily – no, not a good deal (since you don’t gain anything you aren’t already paying for).
If you are a Proton Unlimited subscriber (and plan to stay one), the way I’d assess the value of paying for the lifetime deal in addition to Proton Unlimited is:
Is peace of mind (that if for whatever reason you can’t or don’t pay your annual bill, you won’t lose access to your e-mail aliases or password manager) worth $200 to you? If not, no reason to pay for a lifetime plan. If yes, maybe it’s worth paying for lifetime in addition to unlimited.
Actually this shouldn’t happen anymore since Proton has stated that they will start using the same policy that SimpleLogin uses, so even if you downgrade to the free plan, you would still be able to continue using your existing aliases. I’m not sure if they have done this already though.
Apologies for necrobumping this old thread, but after searching the forums, I figured it would be better to post here rather than starting a new thread. Seems the Proton Pass + SimpleLogin lifetime offer is still up, and I’m considering it.
This is where I do justice to my newly minted Beginner title with some potentially dumb questions;
Does this PP+SL thingy work equally well with any mail provider, or do I need to be using ProtonMail (presumably with the account I need to create when registering for this deal) to leverage all its strengths?
If I use a custom domain, can I control how aliases are named or are they still only randomized names. What I’m after is, as an example, whatiwant@mydomain.tld instead of autogeneratedstuff@mydomain.tld, with the ability to reply to emails or compose from scratch without ever sharing my actual email address.
Where do I “attach” my custom domain to— do I configure it to work with Pass or SimpleLogin?
Am I even going about this the correct way? My aim is unlimited aliases (with naming I have control over) and portability (where the custom domain comes into play) of said aliases.
Fwiw, I am not using any Proton service at the moment, so there’s no issue with this bundle “overlapping” with a Proton Unlimited plan or whatnot.
You can control how they’re named. I enable catch all so that {anything}@{my-domain. com} will get sent to my inbox/one of my folders. There’s also some really cool stuff you can do with their filters etc. You can easily reply to emails by just clicking reply. To compose you need to create a reverse alias first from the SimpleLogin site.
SimpleLogin.
Yes. One of my favorite things to do is set up a naming scheme with your aliases to make filtering easier. For instance I name my shopping aliases sh.[store]@xxx. Then I set up a filter on my email provider that filters emails based on “if recipient contains sh.” and have those automatically moved to a shopping folder.
There’s some other fun stuff you can do with SimpleLogin. Look into it.

How do you limit spam with a catch all address? We have that at work (which I’m not in charge of managing, thankfully) and we get a lot of spam despite our best efforts at filtering. I imagine it can only get worse with AI bots scraping around the interwebz. Is there a trick to it?
Also, I’d assume you’d be able to create these reverse aliases for composing mails via the SimpleLogin mobile app as well? Actually, specifically on mobile, would I need to be alternating between the PP and SL apps for alias creation/management or would one app suffice?
I haven’t had issues with spam. I did set up a filter so that if the receiver doesn’t have one of my prefixes (a. b. c. etc) it gets sent to a folder for later investigation. Thus far I don’t think I’ve had a single email end up there but I may just be lucky.
You can use the app or the site. In the app you click “contacts” under the alias you want to email from. If you’re replying you don’t even need to create a reverse alias. You just click reply in your email client and it does it automatically.
Purchased the lifetime pass last year. I’d like to add more details
It’s a investment risk. You have multiple risks like
the company is closing before the end of your lifetime or worth of the investment
the company discontinue the product,
the product simply stop being updated and a newer and better product is available. For example Addy dot io upgraded their ux/ui and it seems more up to date, with more functionality than simplelogin, but I’m stuck there now.. Simplelogin does not have to have added new features after proton purchase. It is a real risk that it does not adapt.
No support when needed
At the end, I kinda went with it. I might loose out on this investment, losing more money then a few years of subscription then jumping to a better product. Well see.
