Damn, you guys are fast! Nipping it in the bud eh..
Question/Comment to address in your talk: share any and all details available for Proton Meet you can gather (whether they officially release by then to other Proton users or not). Also share your thoughts on it and where you think Proton may be going with their new suite of tools coming out this year.
Do you know approximately how many registered accounts are there on the forum (and monthly and yearly users) and also the reach of the website (number of monthly users, countries)?
Would be cool to know, by curiosity. I have really no idea.I believe it could be 3000, 50’000 or 300’000 users ha ha.
Speaking of open-source, Signal’s server‑side code is largely open source with only a few components like anti‑spam remaining proprietary, whereas Proton’s services—Mail, Drive, VPN, and Pass—keeps their backend code closed. Despite this difference, Privacy Guides has recommended multiple Proton services even though Proton isn’t as fully open source as Signal. Is Proton’s lack of transparency problematic or cause concern?
Any decent ways to run Android apps safely on Linux? I have an app that I have to run that can’t run on Linux. I heard of Waydroid, but I hear that it is quite insecure considering it is on Android 13.
Peertube is notoriously bad at being able to work reliably and set up properly. It’s not easy. YT only for now for reliability sake and ease. But yes, Peertube would be great too.
That’s what I know about Peertube. I may or maynot be completely accurate.
Excellent animated intro - entering pro level production! I see the effort. Good job!
The echo was insane on Jordan’s end. And both voices felt low, I had to turn it all the way up and it was only then properly audible. Please see to these next time better.
Next improvement - better mics and camera’s to record. Computer web cams and headphone/earphone microphone is not cutting it anymore. Sorry, I (and I’m sure others too) can tell the difference (this applies to anyone on the podcast episode). But I know this may require expenditure and may not be possible right away but please add this to your list. Albeit, I hope this is prioritized as much as you can. Right now, this is the single biggest improvement you can make as you have already managed to better yourself in many other ways from way back since I started giving tangible feedback. I thank you again to have incorporated them. Kevin’s voice was also erratic and was cutting off every now and then for a second or two here and then. Following what he was saying felt difficult given this inconsistency (also because his voice was not isolated enough from his “background” noise).
I think it’s best to answer the questions asked in the comments on the PG thread each week when you’re talking about the subject matter in the video rather than getting back to questions at the end. Live questions can be answered at the end of the video for folks watching and asking questions live. I think this would make more sense so please think about it.
All that said, excellent to have Kevin on the podcast today. Hope to see him again and hear from other PG team members too.
As always, hope the feedback is taken well and how it’s intended. Thank you!
Please also share any and all resources shown or talked about in the show notes or here in the comments once the episode is complete. Its hard to properly follow what the website is (URL) and how to open the page you’re showing. Thanks!
Thank you, yes I think it works better than the count down that we had before.
It was an issue with Kevin’s microphone setup, which we are working to fix for next time he is on. Unfortunately it was a bit hacky to address during the livestream as I had to mute Kevin when he wasn’t speaking to make sure the there was no echo.
Personally I think the microphone I have been using sounds fine. I can’t really go into details but my living situation is rather noisy so using my microphone with voice isolation is kind of a must to make sure there is no background noise. Which has resulted it the audio sounding a little less crisp unfortunately. I can bring it up with team members to see what they think about acquiring better audio equipment, but I feel like the audio Jonah and I have had in the past has been acceptable.
I will be working with Kevin over the next few weeks to troubleshoot the audio problems, so that shouldn’t be an issue for the future.
I made a note in our internal show notes to do the forum questions first so this should be okay in the future.
