The Swiss privacy tech company still doesn’t plan to have a Linux client, despite being second most-requested feature.
Unfortunate to see no mention of a Linux client for Proton Drive in this roadmap. I hope they’re secretly working on it…
Nice to see Proton Docs being better integrated with Proton Drive, though.
I really hope Proton is paying attention to what Ente is doing. They need to take notes.
Hi what is Ente ?
I personally rather have them focus on an office alternative and better sync of documents with multiple and offline support. And mobile app for proton docs. Something that isnt quite there. Ente is great so why not just use that.
Those “green” notes might also do!
(btw, the Proton community [mirror] is definitively is paying attention)
You don’t always have to defend Proton. I already watched this video. So, 10 months ago, Yen said, in a vague manner, that they planned to so. Yet, they aren’t going to release it within the next 6 months.
Conclusion : They/Andy choose to focus on Docs and Photos, despite photos being less wanted than Linux support.
I can understand that choice, but then don’t say that you do what the community asks
I hear you. In terms of profitability, I have little doubt that Proton can gain more new customers by improving their office suite. It will definitely please business customers.
One thing I am curious about is if Proton makes more money from regular users or businesses? And if it’s the latter, what does this mean for the rest of us?
Do you know what percentage of their users are Linux users? Probably very low. Highly doubt that Photos and Docs are less wanted than Linux support.
Also, they recently did a survey of all of their customers, so they definitely know what their customers want, and this is what their roadmap is based on.
Thats kind of weird. How can the document be encrypted if anybody can view and edit it ? Dont think this can be called end to end encrypted.
I’m pretty sure that by anybody, they mean anybody who is shared the file inside proton like how google drive allows you to share docs with other accounts. By doing that it never leaves a trusted system and you need access to the approved accounts to access it. Where I would say you could maybe argue is with the public sharing links, but the links are revokable and you have some level of control over who they’re shared with.
