I’ve been backing up some .zip files I have on my phone to Proton Drive, but I’ve noticed a size difference.
Phone: 12.12GB
Proton Drive: 11.28GB
Is this expected? Also does anyone know how to speed up uploads to Proton Drive? At the moment it’s very slow.
Probably due to how they calculate gigabytes. Some software is 1000 MB to 1 GB, some is 1024 MB to 1 GB. It depends on what method they use to calculate it. Gigabyte - Wikipedia
As for slow uploads proton can be slower because they encrypt stuff locally first.
1 Gigabyte is 0.9313226 GiBibytes in which 12.12GB is 11.28763 GiBibytes.
Looking back I’ve always wondered why the 1.44MB Floppy is always reported as 1.38 MB by Windows maybe this was also it.
Another platform showing GiB as GB huh.
