Private Media Sorting Program?

Thanks for this very comprehensive explanation. My only concern is that I have multiple audio libraries. With iTunes, by default, when I open it I only see the files of library 1. In order to see library 2, I have to close iTunes, and do a special maneuver so that when I open it again it asks me which library I want to open, at which point I choose library 2.

Can MB do that?

So I have 2 libraries. Let’s say I import them both on my phone. I want to play library 1 in one app (e.g. Auxio) , and library 2 to in another (Fossify Music). It is very important to me that each app does not have access to the other library. If I intend to use Auxio exclusively for Music, and Fossify exclusively for audiobooks, I do not want an audiobook to accidentally play on Auxio. That is my concern.

Is that possible?

To new library(lib)

Menu → File → Library → Create new library

Libraries(libs) can be switched by choosing desired library in Open Library below Create new library.

Same files can be added under different libs and all track see details will remain intact across all libs. If you need to maintain different libs for different needs like separate libs for rock and jazz - maintain separate folders for each lib.

Now you’ll have multiple libs. To answer your question specifically

  1. Have a master library containing everything.
  2. Create two new libraries in MB for auxio and fossify music.
  3. Create two folders in android - one for auxio and other for fossify music.
  4. Setup sync with both libraries and sync it.
  5. Asfaik the android players you mentioned doesn’t request All files access so in each of the apps allow access only to folders you need - scoped storage access.
  6. :warning: All android music players ootb must be given access to Internal Storage and SD Card → Music folders. So sync your MB libraries and playlists somewhere else like Internal → Auxio.
  7. You have 3 MB libs - master, auxio and fossify music. Use master in PC for all tag editings and listening, other two exclusively for sync.

For me external m3u playlists didn’t work with auxio, fossify music and VLC too. Instead you can try with Gramophone(offline) and retro music player(internet access present) - both are FOSS.

Audacious for Linux, Foobar2000 for Windows.

Audacious is the closest thing I could find to the the magnificent Foobar2000 when I switched to Linux, if only it had a native Linux port  .

Not sure how nice it is but I found out TagStudio, the creator has a YT channel about it too.
