Just found out about this device https://plugos.net/ . Do you think worth buying? I think is a cool idea, only downside I see from what I read about it is that it doesn’t allow IMEI change so can be easily fingerprinted by installed apps.
What do you plan to use it for? What is your use case? Why do you think you need it?
I see nothing about this being open source. If it were, it would have been proudly displayed and showcased on the website encouraging all to check it out.
I would not trust this device.
i was thinking in putting my personal banking apps, because most don’t work with graphene but i need them to make payments, so i could keep this in my pocket.
I am intrigue by this product, but are you sure it will be compatible with your banking app ?
Myself, I don’t have any banking app, I only use the website on librewolf (laptop at my home).
Idk it has google play services so it should work, but I must buy one to see if it really works. I would gladly use them in the browser but most of the time I am on the road, so pulling a laptop to make a transfer would be overkill for me.
I don’t know what you mean by transfer, hopefully not payment.
I don’t think a smartphone is needed for payment.
Back to this device, do you know if it’s compatible with laptop with usb-c connector ?
yes is compatible, even if you don’t have a usb-c you can put an adaptor. can be used with macos, windows or other android. has even the duress feature that graphene has, pretty neat.
So this device could be detected as an normal android device ? (versus an software emulator)
yes, is a phone in a usb dongle
, not virtualized running on real hardware. ofc you can’t insert a sim in it, uses hosts internet connection.
How can you trust them?
The software and firmware is closed source as far as I could see. The company seems to not have any track record in security or privacy community and is also not located in a country (China) known for Privacy or human rights.
If their game is to set up such a operation to drain my bank account, they will be disappointed in the results
. But you raise a very valid point.
I agree about your trust issue.
The company full name is PINGBO TECHNOLOGY LIMITED.
Their product could become interresting in the future if their os can be replaced by an opensource OS.
