Pixel Upgrade Mistake - what do I do next?

My privacy journey started a few years ago. Got a pixel, got graphene, started using Signal, proton, brave etc.

This was a bit of an experiment for me so I got pretty basic Pixel. I wasn’t happy with the size of it and the refresh rate etc.

I got an offer on the Pixel 10 Pro XL that was too good for me to pass on at the time. Here is where I made my mistakes. Firstly, I traded in my old phone. Secondly, I assumed that Graphene would just be available when I got my new phone

The Graphene team are amazing and this is entirely on me. The issue I have now is I need to send my old phone back very soon. Since getting my new phone, I set it up and installed Brave. Have sort of just been playing with it but I cannot bring myself to say install Signal or Proton mail on there. It just feels like throwing away all the work I’ve done.

I’ve come here looking for advice on what to do next. I think I’m also here to understand the extent to which Google play services being everywhere but still using brave, Signal, proton etc. Helps me. I’m far from an expert on all this and my threat model is literally just I want privacy and I don’t want Google etc. Having my data

Given your threat model, it’s okay to simply wait it out until you can get GOS on it. Not much you can do under the circumstances.

I think it depends what is your old phone like?

I almost made the same mistake because of my pixel 7 the screen came loose and started pixel bleeding. I opted for a pixel 9 mainly also because the price is like half of the 10. I would also try and see if the shop is willing to trade it in again.
