Open Table is spying on you — and ratting out your bad habits like being late, canceling to restaurants

This allows eateries to highlight things to your preference, save preferred seating or — if your AI notes reveal poor etiquette — cancel your reservation altogether, sources tell The Post.

“It’s not just spending habits or if they like Coca-Cola or bottled water. Now, we’re getting a taste of what a diner’s behavior at a restaurant is like: If they’re a late canceler, if they leave reviews a lot,” Shawn Hunter, a general manager for Sojourn Social on the Upper East Side told The Post of the feature he first noticed two weeks ago.

Other notes get more specific, like “frequent reviewer;” “high spender;” “dines longer than the average guest;” and “late canceler,” noted Kat Menter, host at a Michelin-star restaurant in downtown Austin, who runs the food account EatingOutAustin.

interesting read as someone who works for a small family of restaurants that uses OpenTable. We have to call OT every time we get a new device just to see customer specific information (ie phone number, email etc). Haven’t seen anything nearly this detailed but, have no reason to believe its not true.

I hate the New York Post lol but that’s a fair assessment of OpenTable.

I miss the days when we can just call to schedule a reservation. Some restaurants don’t even accept phone call reservations anymore. Thankfully it’s not universal yet!

Not an issue when you don’t have the inflated restaurant money either. Solves the issue another way.

But yeah, I wish people Open Table weren’t the case though you can see why restaurants want to use it.
