On running SOHO routers and firewalls

Hello and Greetings,
For those of You running SOHO routers and firewalls who have advanced technical experience- what security features are lacking from this equipment that a “professionally secured network” would have? Would the typical household benefit from something more secure; what would be overkill?

I would think the typical SOHO is relying on their ISPs router which would have significant differences to a true NGFW that a larger company might use.
