Official: Anthropic to Require Identity Verification for Certain Capabilities on Claude Starting July 8, 2026

Anthropic updated its Privacy Policy this week. Starting July 8, 2026, certain capabilities will require identity verification and it will be handled by Persona.

Persona is a third party identity verification company backed by Peter Thiel. The announcement comes months after Discord dropped Persona as an age verification vendor following significant user backlash and a reported data exposure incident in February 2026.

How likely is it that this could also affect Duck.ai and Kagi? Could these services also start requiring ID for certain topics?

Highly unlikely because.

  • Those are privacy focused companies, it would be horrible pr
  • Anthropic is choosing to do this
  • There’s no laws compelling them
  • Nobody would do it because they are privacy focused so their customers are as well
  • They would likely shut down the service before collecting such sensitive user data
  • The models aren’t good enough to do anything dangerous

There’s more reasons as well. It would be more likely that they stop offering the services.
