Nextcloud Hub 10 with e2ee

A big release

Nextcloud should really get their priorities straight. They have been marketing their E2EE for ages and still it’s in a bad state for basic file handling with lots of reports of problems and data loss and the E2EE extension does not keep up with NC updates. Their Nextcloud android app is unstable as hell and still does not allow two-way sync for folders of user’s choice. Their desktop windows and linux client has been broken again for all mTLS users for 1.5 months and I don’t think anyone has even been working on it yet. Instead of fixing basic things they introduce new feature after feature after feature.

I hoped they fixed the e2ee with the new release, I probably spoke too soon…

Does anyone have a good recommendation for an idiot-proof Nextcloud for self-hosting at home? I had a look at Devices - Nextcloud but I wonder how reliable the auto-updating works and what would be the best way to backup up your self-hosted cloud (for: software update gone wrong, HDD/SDD breaking, device physically destroyed).

‘Idiot-proof self-hosting’ is not a thing. Should you be anyone unskilled: Do not host yourself.

To just name something. In the case of the devices linked by you, where are your backups? How do you test them? It is not fool proof at all.
