New Proton Mail App Released - Improved Performance, Offline Mode, and Look?

Just updated Proton Mail today on my phone…and came across a new update? It genuinely feels like a massive improvement too.

According to the release notes:

We’ve completely rebuilt the Proton Mail app to give you a faster, smoother, and more reliable experience.

  • Faster performance: Emails open instantly, scrolling is fluid, and routine actions like archiving or replying are now faster too.
  • Modern design: A refreshed interface with simpler navigation makes it easier to manage your inbox.
  • Offline mode: Read, write, and organize emails even without internet. Everything syncs when you’re back online. Update today to enjoy the new Proton Mail!“

Performance improvements aside, I am really enjoying the new offline mode. I hope this rolls out to Calendar soon; not being able to access my calendar offline was quite disappointing.

Yeah, they went straight from version 4.something to 7.something. Great improvements overall. Hopefully it comes to other apps.

Finally! I’ve been waiting for this update since they announced it in their summer roadmap. Mostly because I believe it was rearchitected to ease adding new features, and this update should also bring Android and iOS to parity in this regard. Hope to get it soon.

I’m guessing this is only available on Google Play for now because I don’t see it posted on their GitHub yet.

Available on iOS already btw.

I appreciate the flairs that have been recently added.

Still can’t manage/see PGP and looks like push still requires Google

Why do you need a “mail app?” I though Proton supported IMAP, at least for paid users.

Only with the Proton Bridge, which is only available for desktop platforms

Wow, that is indeed a huge improvement! I’d also would like to see what it would mean if they went from 7.something to 21.something!

Offline is great but it seems they removed the tracker protection feature. At least, no option to load remote content appears. And while some remote content still is blocked (no option to enable it), much less seems to be blocked.

@Proton_Team could you expand on this ?

Settings → Privacy and security settings → Block email tracking

Settings → Privacy and security settings → Auto show embedded images

Settings → Privacy and security settings → Auto show remote images

Please please please tell me they have a usable tablet app with this change? Gonna re-download this on an iPad now lol

Edit: it looks like they still don’t, and they also know it full well because not a single screenshot in the App Store shows a full screen view of the app in the iPad screenshots section

So they made it default that trackers are no longer removed. Changing user settings for the worse privacy-wise without asking them or even warning them not something I except from Proton. Thanks for the info though.

For me it was enabled already tho?

All I need is a sidebar with emails so I can tap through them on iPad so much wasted space :frowning:

I personally do not use my Proton email for anything but sign ups, so none of this really matters to me. But I am still glad they they are working on their existing products!

I hope also they take a holistic approach and integrate the ecosystem better instead of only focusing on improvements or feature updates. But it is most definitely welcome.
