NEW APP: Sumatra File Manager

I forgot to mention that from my research:

—it appears to be similar to Windows’ built in File Explorer but it comes without the Windows telemetry.

  1. Is a single portable .exe — no installer, no background services, no scheduled tasks
  2. Has no telemetry, no analytics, no ads, no account requirement
  3. Makes no network calls for normal operation (it’s just a file browser)
  4. Stores its settings locally (same pattern as SumatraPDF)
  5. The author Krzysztof Kowalczyk has a 15+ year track record

Something scary I just learned about Windows File Explorer is that it sends telemetry back to Microsoft.

The only downside to Sumatra File Manager is that it’s not open source but the author has been around for 15+ years with no black marks on his record.

And there’s Stocks toolbar showing selected values from yahoo finance. That’s the weirdest thing I ever saw in software design. Why would I need such thing in file manager?

4

The only reason I can think of is that it’s a widget that can show different data, and stocks were used to demonstrate this feature. But sure, a more real-world demonstration would work better
