I see, but location, medical condition, education, whether or not you have kids, the fact you are learning Chinese, being addicted to a substance - these are all similar examples to Google knowing your religion just from the app and it seems a valid question to look for F-Droid alternatives.

Downloading a Muslim app highly correlates you are likely a Muslim.

Downloading an app that has features for a wider set of beliefs does not correlate you to any single religion.

Maybe you could use Al-Azan for prayer times and Noor Ul Huda for Quran. Both are available on F-Droid.

That you practice a religion is sensitive enough. That combined with your time zone or rough location is enough to make an educated guess as to your specific faith.

Install GrapheneOS and don’t have proprietary software with network permission running in your main space.

Agree, there are definitely ways around this. Don’t think I’ve ever seen such a defeatist attitude towards an entire app category before on this forum.

I highly recommend Salah Flow for prayer times and prayer tracking, I think they are currently only on Apple (sorry Android users), but if you don’t create an account, all the data is stored on-device and private. They just came out and unlike other apps out there, it has no ads and is also free, such a gem. You can also maybe check their website, it’s Salahflow.com

  • A local hard copy of the Quran. You can probably find annotated copies too.
  • Your phones alarm clock for the daily prayers?
  • I’m sure there are public calendars you can download and put into your phones calendar.

None of my suggestions are frictionless like a one download app, but they are definitely more privacy respecting. Allah is always watching though…
