Looks like they come out in 2027 and will be north of $1,000. It doesn’t say if they will be slabs or folds, but at least for now the only Motorola Phones that expensive are foldables.
The refusal to use the official logo by media continues to baffle me. Oh, Motorola did that Graphic, lol what.
The pricing for the Signature (which is presumably the main target) is similar to the Pixel 11 Pro. I wouldn’t be very surprised if it becomes slightly more expensive because of the RAM costs and so on though. I think when they (GrapheneOS) said it’d be priced higher they mainly meant it’d be more expensive than the 11a and non-pro 11 models.

They are gonna be way better devices, so it checks out they are more expensive. Try doing literally anything demanding on a Tensor and it heats like crazy and has terrible performance.
They will support more affordable devices in the future years and once the MTE comes to cheaper chips.

My problem is the second hand market won’t be as good as Pixels so will likely have to buy brand new. I got a Pixel 8a for $425 AUD in late 2025 in a phone shop. I doubt that will be so easy with much less popular phone. I would definitely like to avoid spending $1000 on a phone if at all possible.

I was really hoping they’d aim for mid range specs. With projected prices like these, I can’t forsee a high adoption rate amongst the more non-iniated users.
For me a 6.8" display is unusable.

I usually buy used phones or at least refurbished from amazon, doubt these flagship Motorolas will be as cheap as the Pixel A series or at least the non-pros sadly.
Yeah, that’s why I’m going to stick with Google Pixel. I already find the 6.3" of the Pixel too large. 6.8" or 6.9" of the Motorola line up is just ridiculous.

Still not understanding what people are doing on their phones that would cause performance issues. Nor do I understand the value proposition of such expensive phones for gaming. Would you not be better off with a proper handheld like a steam deck at that point?

I think it’s the same reason cameras are such a central feature of smart phones.
We have our phones with us all the time and they do many things pretty well. This means there is a lot of friction to carrying some additional device if we can get a smart phone that does the same task well enough.
I haven’t bought a camera in 15 years, maybe longer. I could get better pictures with a dedicated camera but I don’t want to bother with another device. So I buy a phone with good cameras instead.
I presume mobile gamers are making a similar decision.

Some games like Genshin and CoD Mobile can be quite demanding and aren’t available on Steam Deck.
Well most android games run on even the shittiest phone imaginable, try emulation of semi modern consoles and the pixel just can’t keep up.
For a GraphenOS phone this should not be acceptable.
The goal should be to make privacy accessible for all people and not only for a few. Google phones are expensive as hell especially if you look at the issues with the battery and processor.
And this phone is not cheap either.
I get the issue with secure and good hardware and firmware, since most vendors just don’t care at all, but 1.000$ is a hell lot of money for many people.

I’m aware that you can buy used phones. But depending on the area you are the price of a used phone is not much cheaper like I bought my refurnished phone “only” 100€ cheaper than a new one.
Also for me the refurbished Pixel 8 pro is cheaper than the refurbished Pixel 8a, which I find kind of funny.
Keep in mind that this isn’t a normal year for phone and pc makers. Storage costs and memory costs have shot through the roof, so you can expect the phones to get more expensive, at least until those issues are resolved with the chips.

I’m personally saving up to vote with my wallet. at least that’s how my country works it seems.
Flutter apps are frequently noticeably laggy on my phone. I’d rather have a device that can at least handle that.
