Missing thread

There was previously a thread open on here from when Proton suspended those journalists/hacktivists who used their Proton accounts for responsible disclosure to the South Korean government. The thread now seems to be gone, or at least I can’t find it. Just curious if this is intentional/some kind of moderation decision or if it’s a glitch because I don’t think I’ve seen entire threads disappear on here before.

Is it this thread?

No, the incident happened this year and I remember I commented in the thread

If it’s the thread I’m thinking of I believe it started getting toxic and went way off topic. Mods probably hid it to stop that.

Could be, but usually they just lock the thread, hide the off topic comments, and give a rationale at the bottom. I don’t think I’ve seen them hide a whole thread before. I’m also pretty sure it disappeared relatively recently, a month or two after it was most active

Found an archive of it.

I have no clue why that thread is deleted. Possibly a mistake?

cc @ph00lt0 (might be keeping a closer eye on these things than I do)

edit: It seems like the OP deleted their entire account, which would indeed make this thread disappear. This is non-standard, usually people do not request also deleting all their posts when they delete their profiles, but we do honor those requests. This destructive behavior is why I do not allow people who delete all their posts to return to this forum, it’s rude :upside_down_face:

We could move it to another anonymous user. And reinstate it. Doesnt really make sense to remove it completely.

Took the liberty to do this. done.

Does this mean you no longer honor these requests? Kind of seems like you just basically undid it.

The post was deleted by my userid and i have never handled such request so safe to assume it was a mistake on my end rather than executing such request. There is not really any point in such request as well we do delete all previously submitted personal data (unless there is security wise need for storing an ip addresses under legitimate intrest, unassociated to the posts still). So all there is is still the content that as you see above also gets archived by websites that unfortunately usually don’t delete the original poster’s info.

I’m glad you guys still honor those requests even if they bring more negatives to the community than positives to the individual.

How do you know whether someone is the same person or not? IP address? Stylometric guessing? Or are you just referring to when someone re-creates their account (same username)?

This is not strictly enforced on a technical level, but we will let them know this is unwelcome behavior and we do ban by IP.
