one important caveat
You must have a rooted device with Xposed to use LibrePods on Android.
You just stripped the context out of the equation.
This is due to a bug in the Android Bluetooth stack. Please upvote the issue by clicking the â+1â icon on the IssueTracker page.
There are no exceptions to the root requirement until Google/your OEM figures out a fix.
Until the bug in the Android Bluetooth stack is resolved. Hope it is soon enough. Please upvote the issue here: Google Issue Tracker
lol the context doesnât matter. You have to root your phone to use LibrePods for now. I am sorry that offends you. There is no need to add context when the source code is clearly linked and the information is an obvious quote.
You reading that as a negative is injecting your own emotion into what was just a side note.
It still matters to add the context in this case because as they said, as soon as Google figures out how to fix it, Root is no longer required
Itâs good to warn users but important context like this should not be stripped
adding some note that âsometime at some point in the future this may not be the caseâ, is not relevant. That could be years down the line.
and again people can just look at the linked github page for more info.
Not everyone reading this thread will dive this deep to learn of the context. Hence it would have made more sense to point out the whole caveat and not just partially.
Itâs just good comment etiquette.
lol its not a deep dive. just go to the readme of the github, which is linked by OP If people are just reading the comments and not the actual information provided in the thread they are bound to not get the context regardless.
Those users are choosing to be uninformed.
You have your views. We have ours. Letâs drop it. This is not adding value to the discussion and this good news no matter the caveats.
This is pretty unfortunate. I heard about this project yesterday and was going to test it out, but now obviously I canât ![]()
It is
Hopefully the issue is fixed on Googleâs part so that root no longer is required
Another thought is if the dev could utilize Shizuku instead of root to work around it but not something I feel comfortable discussing here at this point.
Honestly maybe just maybe Shizuku is a way better solution than rooting but then again both are not ideal for their own reasons
This has been an open issue for a year. Itâs not unreasonable to be pessimistic about Google suddenly caring enough to fix it. IIRC, there is even a patch someone has submitted, but it hasnât been merged.
Requiring root makes it a non-starter for anyone who cares about privacy or security.
Well Hopefully wasnât an exaggeration I suppose
However if this projects does get the issue reviving, they may consider it
Itâs only up to the community and in turn Google at the end of the day.
A custom ROM could also implement the patch, presumably. GrapheneOS being the only way to properly use AirPods on Android would be a pretty compelling sales pitch for some people ![]()
You know even if I were to miss live translation.
Sold
LIterally what I was thinking - if custom ROMs couldnât ensure of this themselves. I just didnât know if that was even the right question to ask as I know little about Android and how Google works with it and how it affects downstream to all OEMs with the AOSP.
Iâll simply settle for quality audio. I donât use the frills and extra features anyway. It would extend the life of my existing AirPods I have sitting around.
Talk about missing context ![]()
This would be amazing.
I do see a lot of people using EOL device as offline media players, so I donât think the rooted requirement needs to be a disqualifier for all situations
Yeah honestly for the bare minimum which is the decent noise cancellation, control and quality, it is enough
