They’ve commented on it here, and there is an issue on their GitHub here. I wouldn’t count on it though since it’s not a privacy/security feature and GrapheneOS seems to have its hands full as is.
Just like how we got Google to reverse course on the android developer verification (To be clear it wasn’t a full reverse but it was something, more like a step in the right direction that needs to be directed further), It is up to the community to bring up the issue and PR again and in turn Google listens and patches it.
I mean if I was Google right now, If I saw some nerd made an app like this, I would capitalize on AirPod users looking to switch to Android right now.
Though this is a significantly a less important issue that may not be enough to rile people up to get Google to fix it.
The best way is to advocate for it and get someone’s attention within Google to look into this. This would need a more surgical approach.
Here we go with missing again
Now maybe That is the incorrect way for business strategy at Google as I said above but again it is something to capitalize on considering the amount of AirPods users
Not missing the point. I get what you mean.
What I meant was this is not an existential issue as the sideloading was - is all.
For sure, especially because it also sticks it to Apple a bit
It also sticks to their own AirPod equivalent offering.
if that person commits to helping with development and maintenance beyond this feature.
This is so strange, they want a patch but they want the patcher to not only maintain it, but also maintain parts of GOS other than this patch? Maybe I am misunderstanding them.
offtopic
Also, interesting that their GitHub issues don’t say I’m blocked by them anymore (comment box isn’t grayed out lol), but I won’t read too much into that.
Edit: anyways, yeah it’d be cool but I guess we’ll see. I didn’t really look at the patch in question so I don’t know if the maintenance burden would be particularly troublesome, but I definitely think it’s a good idea for them to do if it’s easy.
True but remember
Hook

Sink
No, you’re right. I read it the same way. Odd for sure.
I guess. I tend to think both options working on their phone only helps them but I see what you mean. All these companies collude with each other anyway so I doubt Google is really trying to hurt Apple in the first place.
I don’t have the numbers to back this but I’m sure AirPods sell a lot more than Google’s offering. And people, if given a choice who are in the non Apple ecosystem, could still choose AirPods if it worked with Android given its popularity and quality.
But this opinion is based on what I know, have read, and understand from people about the consumer electronics they prefer.
For some reason this is now getting mainstream media coverage:
why ‘for some reason’?
Because people are inexplicably talking about this now when this app and the issue with the Bluetooth bug have been around for ages.
I’m just happy The Verge is mentioning Linux. People need to know of this totally viable option and that Windows is not the end of the world.
That is the power of influencers. One voice on YT can reach millions.
In this case I think it was Android Authority which randomly decided to pick it up on the 17th but yes.
