I’m looking for some clarification on exactly what the risk is from static MAC Addresses. The guide mentions that it’s important for devices connecting on wifi, but doesn’t really explain why. In particular, does the risk come from MAC Address exposure to the router or does it extend out beyond the router?
I am my own network admin at home, on a router I own rather than an ISP provided device. If the only risk is exposure to the router, that isn’t a risk I need to care about on my home network, but if the risk extends outside my home network, I want to make sure to take that into consideration appropriately.
