Looking to buy a new phone

I would like to buy a new phone. I wanted to buy a pixel 8a or 9 but the price and performance is not appealing to me. Then the one I am very interested is the OnePlus 12, wish is very good on so many aspects! The battery, the fast charging, the performance and the years of supported operating software and security upgrades. But I get that it does not have a separate chip to store sensitive informations and that you cannot install Graphene OS (wish i was not interested to install even if I would buy the Pixel. So my question is how les secure it is compare to a Pixel? Thanks a lot!

Thanks!

It doesn’t even come close to Samsung devices, so there is absolutely no comparison with Pixel devices.

OnePlus is also a Chinese company, so yeah.

Why not a pixel 8a? It’s cheap now and a realy great phone with great support.

OP is never considered a “secure” device, and now that they are more integrated with Oppo/Vivo with ColorOS, I’d go on a limb to say it’s default privacy practices are questionable too. Go with a Pixel/Samsung if you want security in Android, or just take the iOS pill.

This really is it at the end of the day. I recently had a similar struggle where I wanted to get a Samsung S24. I was looking all over the place for someone to talk about how actually Samsung wasn’t that bad or wins out in some area. All I consistently saw is that iPhone and Pixel win on almost all privacy and security fronts compared to the competition. To choose something else is to make a tradeoff based on what you’re threat model allows.

OP, you have my sympathy!

Compared to the Pixel without Graphene OS I would say its moderately less secure and private mainly because it’s run by a Chinese company. Chinese mobile manufacturers are notoriously atrocious about user privacy.

Compared to the Pixel with Graphene OS it is not even in the same league. Grapehene is miles ahead in terms of privacy and security.
