Looking for a Simple, Secure Calendar Sync Solution - Any Alternatives to Tuta?

I’m currently looking for a secure cloud storage/sync solution, and I’ve been considering Tutanota. I like the idea of using a standard phone sync (like iCloud or Google Drive) but with end-to-end encryption.

I’ve noticed that some recommended options (like Threema and Proton) require installing their own apps, which I’m hesitant about due to potential privacy concerns with the apps themselves.

I’ve also read that Proton isn’t fully offline capable and isn’t open-source, which is a concern for me.

Does anyone know of other secure sync solutions that offer a more straightforward approach (e.g., syncing with existing cloud services) while still providing strong encryption?

I’m open to suggestions and would appreciate any insights or recommendations!

Tuta doesn’t currently have a cloud storage solution. They are currently developing it.

Tuta is an email provider. Proton has a suite of products. Please read their websites to learn more. It’s all there.

Proton is open sourced. Where are you getting your information? Also, what’s making you say that?

You are welcome to use any cloud storage service provider with Cryptomator. Cryptomator encrypts your data client side so it doesn’t matter what cloud storage service you use. Also, this depends on what kind of set up you want and how you want to be able to access your files.

These are basic questions. I recommend reading the following websites: Privacy Guides, Techlore, The New Oil. You’ll find all your answers there if not on the Techlore channel. Please do some research and you’re welcome to ask more questions with specificity detailing you threat model and use case so we may better answer your questions then to ensure you choose the right tool to use for the purpose. I am unable to answer questions at such a basic level because you have provided no details nor have you shared what you have looked into. But like I said, the answers are easily found on the resources I mentioned and I can help you choose the right tool once you share some more details for why and how you want private, secure, cloud storage (because not every tool serves every purpose and there are differences).

If this is your primary goal, then Cryptomator is indeed what you need.

FYI, this tool can also be used locally to encrypt files on your device should you need to. Once you start using it, you’ll see what I mean.

Thank for your answer.
Sorry, I meant for a calendar solution (My english is not great)
If it still relevant all the information I took from this page, and it state specifically that the android client for proton is not open source:

Huh. I didn’t think it was the case.

But if Calendar is what you’re after, Proton is indeed still trust worthy. But Tuta is also another valid and fantastic option. You can’t go wrong with either.

I guess the answer is no, but do you know if there is an option to use the built in calendar with encryption?

Well, the answer is yes - it is as private and secure as they claim but you may choose to not believe it or trust them if your threat model is so high.

But if you need another option, like I said, Tuta is another one.

Sorry, I means to use the calendar app that already on my phone, and sync it somehow, instead of installing Tuta app

You can’t have it all your way. You want private, secure, open source, and sync. That’s asking for too much without needing to download anything. I don’t understand your needs.

Tuta is the best available. No one wanting the best privacy and security can do or find anything better that has sync available with offline use.

Good luck to you.

The standard protocol to sync calendars doesn’t support E2EE, that’s why Proton and Tuta asks you to install their app. They’re using their own standard, which other apps don’t support.

You have to choose between interoperability and security. You can’t have both in this case.

PS: There is EteSync, but their app seem to be abandoned, so proceed with caution.
