As Brave is open source, wouldn’t it be possible to patch this dependency out and run an automatic build script? Like Fennec F-Droid does with Firefox.
@Regime6045
Fennec F-Droid isn’t automated, myself and relan maintain it and it takes 2-8 hours each update. Some have big issues like the current 125 which I’ve sunk 20+ hours into fixing.
(waiting on a compile as I type this)
So yes, it is possible, but someone has to actually do the heavy lifting.
It ain’t gonna be me.
@sha123
just because we can install proprietary Play to workaround doesn’t make this not a problem
the same way many of us won’t switch to the Apple ecosystem, because it is absurd to be arbitrarily bound by either of their chains.
You’re right, I was probably thinking of Signal-FOSS
Even though Brave is a good browser I never liked their crypto stuff and rewards.
We really need another good chromium based browser for Android.
Clearly, Brave is a mess when it comes to this, we need a browser to go online, not an affiliate product and crypto it’s ridiculous.
Brave has confirmed they have a Dev looking into it.
I dont care, not going to change to an open source fork that will/may disappear in the future like bromite. I have vanadium as backup.
If you’ve installed Google Play Services you aren’t personally affected. For any Brave on Android users who want to avoid Google Play Services it seems pretty impossible not to care about this.
I am not personally affected by this (right now), but I can understand why those who are affected consider it to be a big deal.
Ah i understand. Thanks. Makes sense. I run gos but with my fam its plain android. So for me its more of a hassle to change apps from time to time on their phone and explain this app, eg Bromite, is no good no more use this app.
They get annoyed. So yeh.
They will be fixing it: Fresh installs no longer work without Google Play Services available on system · Issue #37855 · brave/brave-browser · GitHub
I created another user with no g services, main profile has it, and brave on android p6a gos worked. So i assume its working now.
