Those Mac Pro’s are still beasts in my eyes!
For my present ThinkPad T470, Lenovo officially did 5 yrs of firmware support(2018-2023). They still provide minor updates “AS IS”, but no guarantee whatsoever. The latest one was on Feb 2025 for a power & battery driver. I hope it provide some light into what you can expect from Lenovos ThinkPad series?
There is also the possibility that most of the business grade will often provide longest firmware support.

I definitely think you’re correct about the business grade laptops having much better security updates and much longer support!
I’m doing research now for the best laptop brand to buy.
The issue with Lenovo is that it was bought by a Chinese company a few years ago…

If it’s for Linux, then Lenovo is your best option.

but otherwise you have brands that optimize for Linux too Beyond Lenovo:
Framework, NovaCustom(with Dasharo Coreboot that supports things like verified boot), Tuxedo, System76 etc. @Average_Joe

Lenovo is a chinese company while the original ThinkPad designers were IBM from where they bought it. Lenovo still tries to maintain the quality of original think design including the timely firmware updates, however you are in every way right to be concerned for them being a chinese brand especially on the wakes of supply chain attacks and their terrible past records of MITM ing SSL traffic to serve ads(Superfish incident).

I’m leaning toward buying a Dell laptop: something in the pro range since these seem to have better overall hardware durability and longevity. I really hate going through the cycle of constantly buying/throwing out/buying/throwing out on and on.
I like buying quality that lasts as this gives me less headaches and I think saves money in the long term.
