Doing a purge on my online-presence and building my privacy, only recently have I begun using email aliases for example.
I was wondering about all those accounts I’ve made with that one email since 5 years ago. Is there a full-proof way to search for every account I’ve made with an email so I can purge these?
There’s no fool-proof way of finding all of them. As an example, you might have gotten some socks from a Shopify based front end site 5 years ago.
Usually this time of year, being the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, most of the sites send email to their customers in hopes of sales and promotions.
I’d recommend saving the email address used for each site in your password manager. Either the notes field or a user defined field. The benefit is, if you use an alias at a dozen sites, and that alias leaks, you should be able to easily find the sites that use it and update them before you terminate the alias.
Since I started my Google account way back in the beta days, I’ve always had an accounts folder. I have placed all my sign up notification emails over there.
Looking back, I think this has been a good strategy as I have them all there. Dashlane was able to gobble it all there, which in retrospect might not have been a good idea.
Assuming you’ve never cleared your inbox, been hoarding old mails for years then the most reliable way is to search it for keyword such as “welcome” and “verify”. Those are usually onboarding mail from providers welcoming you to their service.
