Is fossify keyboard a good choice?

So I tried using AnySoftKeyboard but the typing wasnt good. Also i want something based on AOSP and ofcourse it has to have no internet permission.

FUTO Keyboard is what I recommend to all. I like that best. Check it out and try to see if that’s good enough for you.

Learn more here:

It is in Alpha but works well enough for me.

Futo is source available, not true foss. If your only care is about its code being viewable without the ability to modify it and/or redistribute it then its a fine keyboard.

FUTO is still made in the spirit of FOSS. But I trust the company behind it and the way they operate and do things to trust it even though it is not full FOSS.

I don’t know what that means. The spirit of FOSS means different things to different people, but I think the FUTO license is made in the spirit of the FUTO licence.

Coke is made in the spirit of water, I suppose, if you think about it from the perfect perspective.

The feature I’ve had troubles finding with the more recent keyboards that are being actively maintained is the thing where you swipe across the space bar to place the cursor where you want it when correcting text. I’ve found heliboard, as sugggested by @null to work well for typing and that it has that as well. The ones I had used in the past dropped support.

The FUTO keyboard is usable if you are ok with the licence. I used it when I cared about having a voice input button right there on the screen, but then I wasn’t using it. It’s weird watching people compare that licence to something it isn’t, like saying the BSD licence is the GPL. I think people want to be on the same page with Luis Rossman (see my avatar for example) and then this surreal dialoge starts about FUTO.

FUTO Keyboard is the best choice if you want convenience and also privacy & security. I use it myself and it’s the best one I have used so far. Models can even be trained locally on my device. Although, if you want more convenience, you can try using Gboard but use a firewall app like NetGuard to block it’s internet access.

Florisboard it’s bleh. It’s pretty much customisable, but…

  • It doesn’t have spelling check.
  • It’s on beta.
  • Since there’s no spell checking you can do a bunch of mistakes while typing, if you try to write faster.
  • Some features are just placeholders in the keyboard and app.

Not recommended if you wanna type fast.
