Great news!
I bombarded it with questions for testing and fun. It works really well and will surely develop further. I’ll definitely be using it in the future!
edit. And it looks neat!
Taken from the comments on reddit:
The models we’re using currently are Nemo, OpenHands 32B, OLMO 2 32B, and Mistral Small 3. These run exclusively on servers Proton controls so your data is never stored on a third-party platform.
Of course, it’s behind other models that don’t care about privacy at all, but I couldn’t even hope for this move from Proton. A great move nonetheless!
Proton is on fire lately!
Asking for private mail apps it gives next to proton and tuta also:
CryptUp:
Advantages: CryptUp is an email service focused on privacy and security. It offers end-to-end encryption and is based in the United States. CryptUp has both free and paid plans.
Platforms: Web.
Interesting and never heard of it.
Ah yes, finally we can have private hallucinations
better than not private am i right?
thing is I’ve been planning to program a confidential AI with my own way (mostly using decentralization and asymmetrical encryption) but with the cost of AI server, it is really like… Yeah I would advice users to try and run their own local model in terms of cost.
So my plan for this is being scrapped since Proton achieved what I really wanted to achieve with the rise of AI so yeah.
And yet they fail to release spreadsheets along with docs they released over a year ago
But I do agree with you still.. just don’t know why they have not done that
proton still has a whole suite to release, docs, spreadsheet, presentation and probably all others (see CryptPad for more of the suite)
I know. But why the long wait for spreadsheets. They have almost perfected Docs. And sheets are an integral part of working in teams.
I’m just feeling jaded because I’ve been long expecting this and still haven’t got it.
mhm, I’m just adding fuel to the fire is all.
So most of this is a pinky promise. They promise not to keep logs, they promise not to share data. I’m not seeing any real technical privacy guarantees other than the zero access encryption but that’s only after they promise to delete logs. I don’t really see what makes this more private than other non local AI options.
I mean.. after all that Protonis known for, I think it’s almost unfair to categorize or think of this as just a pinky promise. They have earned the trust and will and should get to use that goodwill from its users if you ask me.
they said the don’t log not delete it?
What is confusing about this
cc: what @JG said, we already trust them not to log emails and store them with zero access encryption, I don’t see what’s the difference with Lumo at this point.
Edit 2:
Well that’s the real game changer, right? I mean, if the content of the conversations are encrypted locally they remain truly private and it’s not the case with other AI options.
Correct me if I’m wrong but logs are mostly metadata, I think about ip, timestamps and the like.
Sheets are coming soon.
