I think it could be a great asset to Privacy Guides if the recommendations concisely specified why exactly these projects/products are recommended. Because the answer is often/mostly uniform, I think simple icons would serve this purpose elegantly. One could hover over or click on the icon for an explanation of the symbol’s meaning and perhaps details specific to the particular recommendation you are looking at.
For example:
e2e: communication is end to end encrypted
radio symbol with a strikethrough circle: doesn’t connect to the internet (unlike popular alternatives)
IP with a strikethrough circle: doesn’t expose your IP adress
cloud with a strikethrough circle: doesn’t store things in the cloud (unlike popular competitors)
grasping hand with a strikethrough circle: doesn’t collect more information than the legal minimum
dollar with a strikethrough circle: doesn’t sell your information
First of all, sorry for the necropost
Thank you for your suggestion! I think your idea might be similar to the one proposed in another thread: Implement Threat Model Labels
We have a preview for the threat model labels that you might want to check out:
Often we see e2ee as a requirement we have to be carefil making icons for all those things as it polutes the website a bit and e2ee should be a hard requirement in most cases.
