uBlock Origin Lite only receives block list updates whenever the extension is updated from your browser’s extension marketplace, as opposed to on demand. This means that you may miss out on new threats being blocked for weeks until a full extension release is published.
This isn’t true. Chrome has expedited reviews for some changes, including filter lists. As a result, uBlock Origin Lite updates every 2 days, as you can see in the stable releae on GitHub.
In comparison, uBlock Origin updates its quick fixes list every 12 hours and some lists are also updated every 12 hours, such as Phising lists. Most lists however, are updated every 5 days.
The point is he can update it every two days if he want to.
And he sometimes does -just not always on Github-, see the update time on the Chrome Web Store being June 11.
Indeed, sometimes there is <week between updates. But Google does approve filter lists update in less than 24 hours. For example, release xx.2042 got approved the same day by Google
Even updates with changes to the extension functionallity, like xx.2314 get approved in 2 days, as you can see from this archive of the CWS
That being said, it does seem the extension -and it’s filters- can go up to 8 days without update. While this is @gorhill fault, it doesn’t change the fact for the end user . So we should say that filter lists could go without updates for up to a week.
This is specified in the filter list, after the !Expires. This doesn’t mean you can’t manually update the list if you want to, but by default most lists only get updated (by the extension) every few days.
