I need help with Open AI account deletion

I’ve been using an Open AI account to use Chat-GPT for a while. Now I mainly use Duck AI and Lumo. I want to delete my account, but it gets tricky for me. I have it linked to a deleted email, but I still have an active phone number. When I try to delete it on my phone through “Delete Account” it says “There was an error with your account deletion. PLease try again. If the problem continues, please visit us at help.openai.com”. I tried doing it on my desktop, but I can’t log in because it says I need a verification code from my email account.

Using their help page, I figured out I can visit OpenAI Privacy Center and submit a request there using both my email and my phone number. However, when I choose to use my phone number, it asks me to receive a verification message that they want to send to my email. So I basically need my email even if I choose using my phone number, so phone number seems a bit useless.

Has anybody had a similar situation? What can I do?

Is there a way you can email them to ask for help for your particular situation? Otherwise, I don’t know of any way to resolve this issue.

But I would delete all your chats and let the account become dormant if you don’t plan on using it in the future if you can’t delete it in full.

Thanks for you reply. I’ve been struggling with this deletion for a few weeks, and just now I realised that a contact email on OpenAI Privacy Center doesn’t have to match my account’s email. I managed to submit an account deletion request with another email.

I feel a bit stupid now for not figuring it out earlier and I feel embarassed for figuring it out 10 minutes after asking for help.
