Different tools for different jobs. Considerable overlap, but still fundamentally different.
Tor bandwidth is also a shared and scarce resource. Tor serves anyone/everyone, but (in my eyes) it shouldn’t be squandered/abused or used as a “free VPN” or the like. Most (but not all) people using a VPN have little or no need for the high level of anonymity provided by Tor.
Thanks, that means a lot in my eyes (particularly if Mullvad has agreements with partners/resellers that set some minimum standards for what partners can or cannot do with respect to user data)
Just read the link.
It says " Malwarebytes has partnered with Mullvad in order to utilize our global network of VPN servers for its own VPN application, Malwarebytes Privacy, since October 2019."
I’m not sure if they’re meaning the entire application there or just the servers. It seems like maybe just the servers?
Yeah. Sounds like ProtonVPN’s iOS app was good until pretty recently, according to the reviews
If VPNs on iOS are terrible, are the protections listed here for Safari enough to go without one, do you think?
While I cannot speak for others, I have found Mullvad to be the most reliable VPN among those I have used on iOS. I have never encountered any issues with its performance. Although I am not advising you to subscribe to Mullvad, I do recommend testing it, particularly given its relatively low cost on a monthly plan. If it doesn’t fit your expectations, just try another one.
In my view, VPNs are not inherently ineffective on iOS. They serve a distinct purpose and offer specific advantages. Despite certain limitations compared to their desktop counterparts, VPNs remain the most efficient method for concealing your IP address. The critical consideration is whether you genuinely need this service based on your threat level and personal intentions. If your usage is limited to Safari on iOS, iCloud Private Relay, could be a more economical alternative. However, it is important to note that this option is not recommended by PG and does not fully replace the functionalities of a VPN.
Ive used Mullvad, Proton and Nord on iOS, and, among this trio, Proton acted the best way. Proton messed their iOS app recently (some 2 updates back) and thats when I switched to NordVPN on iOS. No issues whatsoever.
On my Macbook, I have both Nord and Proton apps installed, using both (not simultanously ofc ) and also no issues.
