How The NSA Tried to Backdoor Every Phone

Did you know the NSA tried to backdoor everyone’s mobile phones?

In a continuation of our Crypto Wars series, we’re covering how back in 1993 the Clinton administration tried to implement a hardware backdoor in everyone’s mobile phones. This is the story of how a ragtag group of Cypherpunks and a brilliant researcher dismantled their backdoor and revealed why implementing it would compromise encryption.

This story helps to give historical context to why current attempts to undermine encryption like the UK’s Online Safety Bill and Australia’s Assisstance and Access Bill are doomed to fail.

I’m looking forward to hearing what you think and I hope you learn something!

Wow that’s interesting, I didn’t do any research into these separate cases, I feel like this could be a whole other video too.

Didn’t realise there were so many attempts by the NSA and the U.S. government to undermine encryption!
