Sorry to sour Thanksgiving weekend, but I got some urgent news.

We need to organize a call to action around a hearing that will happen on December 2nd in the US Energy & Commerce Committee.

In general the goal of this hearing is to start looking into all of the “protect the kids” legislation that has been proposed. This includes bills like the Kids’ Online Safety Act (KOSA) and the App Store Accountability Act, which I think is a federal version of the state laws in Texas, Utah, and Louisiana that requires age verification for using an app store.

The full list of proposals can be found in the link at the top.

This is the time to call your congressional representatives and tell them that you do not support these invasive laws! This is our Chat Control. Do not sleep on these proposal or else we’re going to be talking about them after they become law. The time to act is now.

  1. Look up who you House rep is.
  2. Call them.
  3. Give them your name and your zip code and tell them you would like to leave a legislative opinion.
  4. Share something along these lines: “I understand that on December 2nd there will be a hearing by the Energy and Commerce Committee around the safety of children online. While I care deeply that our kids be safe no matter where they are, I am opposed to these invasive and damaging proposals. Bills like KOSA will erode the right of all Americans, including children, to digital freedom. Bills like these bring us one step closer to the surveillance state of China and many times do not even accomplish their stated goal of keeping kids safe. I am asking my representative to oppose these bills as of today.”
  5. Call your two senators and share the same.

If you have to leave a voicemail, that’s fine, those get counted too. Even emailing your elected representatives about this is good.

It’s time to turn up the pressure. It’s go time.
