Google confirms it's 'combining' Chrome OS and Android into a single platform

In an (awkwardly written) interview with Techradar, Google executive Sameer Samat confirmed rumors that the company is merging Chrome OS and Android.

This is the first time that Google publicly acknowledged what we all suspected.

Assuming that any relevant projects adapt to this change, could this lead to a future where Android-based laptops/desktops are recommended by the privacy community over traditional PCs?

What will this mean for custom OSs on Chromebooks?

I guess it would be better than Windows and even maybe macOS because of the added customizations options and ability to sideload apps etc. It is also great that it would add a lot of the security of Android to desktops.

But I think there will also be people who prefer to use Linux distros that are open-source and community-driven and not developed/branded as Google.

I don’t know why this did not happen before because Android is very very flexible and is running all sorts of devices, not only smartphones but also tills, ATMs, …

Maybe we could get GrapheneOS on a Chromebook instead of a Pixel tablet.

I am personally dreaming of this. Imaging being able to use a laptop form factor (trackpad and all) but with GrapheneOS. Oh my God, this would make me so happy!
