Gboard - uses more data then YouTube

I don’t see the point of encouraging anyone to use a keyboard that is not private and secure by default.

Still a terrible product from a privacy POV. And hence don’t believe anyone should be using it.

FUTO Keyboard has pretty good predictions and spelling correction. Is fully offline (doesn’t ask the Network permissions)

Genuinly curious…could this really account for 5GB of data in a month. I had assumed this type of stuff is relatively small, size wise.

Its not outside the realm of possibilities as the app can technically be transmitting anything of any size.

I use FUTO keyboard every day and it works great

Another vote here for FUTO. I find it to be the most polished and accurate open source keyboard by far. I’m not missing gboard at all.

HeliBoard, FUTO Keyboard and FlorisBoard are all solid alternatives.

Yeah. If you need non-latin keyboard, Fcitx5 is great as well, though I only use it for Chinese

Random thought but maybe you use a theme and it’s poorly implemented so that you download the .png for a fancy background every few hours or alike?

Otherwise, might be telemetry yes.
Keep a close eye on it next month when you do have some reset maybe. :+1:t2:

Can anyone here provide a comparison or a reason to use either one of these over the other?

I think swiping to type is the best and I was bouncing around to see which keyboard has the best implementation + swipe autocorrect. They all feel around the same to me. I’m trying out FUTO, but why do people here seem to prefer it over HeliBoard?

HeliBoard works great, almost exactly like Gboard but you have to use Google’s proprietary glide typing library if you want that feature.

Florisboard has experimental glide typing, there’s some bugs with gliding and next-word predictions when I was last using it over a year ago so I swapped to HeliBoard.

FUTO Keyboard looks promising but I haven’t tried it yet. It having an open-source glide typing support sounds great but unsure how accurate it is.

Urik is another one I’ve recently heard about but not tried either.
