Forbes: Microsoft Gave FBI BitLocker Encryption Keys, Exposing Privacy Flaw

This is a confusing comment, both actual BitLocker (dubbed “BitLocker Disk Encryption”) and Device Encryption (built on BitLocker technology) are built-in.

Do you have any source for this claim?
I have home, pro, enterprise as well as Windows Server 2025 right now here and inside the GPOs and settings there is only Bitlocker.
Regarding of the version of it or if it is used as enterprise system or normal home usage.

In addition, you can disable and force the key upload with GPOs on any version that is Pro or above.

So I’m a bot confused, since it seems like there is only one Bitlocker software.

Device Encryption is accessible simply from settings, and on any edition.

Ohh … I see now what you mean.

The home edition doesn’t have access to BitLocker and for a long time was not able to even encrypt data. Since a few years Microsoft introduced the Device encryption which is tiny BitLocker just for the home edition.
