Fairphone 6 lands in the US via Murena for $899 but there's a caveat

Fairphone 6 has just released! If you’re based in the US, the only way you can get is with Murena’s e/OS/, a significant markup, and limited support among some network carriers.

I don’t usually pay attention to Murena’s website, but I stumbled across this as well:

You can also get the Nothing CMF phone as well? All without supporting the Pixel 9 series at all.

Murena appears to be focused on installing e/OS/ on these two phones rather than competing with Calyx and GOS entirely.

Good:

  • Proper smartphone ARM v9 SoC (Qualcomm Snapdragon SM7635), not some cheap IoT chip like with the Fairphone 5

Bad:

  • Still no secure element
  • No MTE

Gonna be the same awful track record of 1-3 month delay in updates on stock too.

Do you know how big update delays are for Samsung, Xiaomi or other vendor’s stock OS?

@sha123
no idea, they have too many models to pay attention to

I really wish grapheneos supported fairphone. It also looks like these are specific to tmobile network, which isnt great where I live.

ARM Memory Tagging Extension. It’s an important security mitigation for some classes of memory safety bugs.
