Facebook Marketplace

It’s been in the back of my head for years now that I wanted to delete my Facebook account. It’s pretty rare now that I have to use it to contact an acquaintance, so I don’t mind losing that.

For groups, it will be harder as people still use it to organize.

One thing that surprisingly has kept me on the site is Facebook Marketplace.

I thought of creating a new fake account for point #2 and #3 and just using it for those, but it seems impossible. Facebook wants to absolutely authenticate the new account with a invasive video of my face which would defeat the whole purpose.

Any solution to these? Is it still possible to create false account on Facebook? If not, anything worth mentioning to replace Marketplace? I know this would be mostly country / region specific, but I’m still curious to hear about it.

I keep my Facebook for Facebook Marketplace as well. When I sell stuff on FB Market, I would want to know who I’m selling my product to since I’ve come across a lot of FB profiles trying to scam. So probably not a good idea to create an anonymous account. I’ve tried creating an instagram account through Tor using an e-mail alias, and got banned a few days later. Probably was the right thing to do to reduce bot / fake accounts.

Using big tech social media platforms is inherently invasive, so the forum suggestion is to delete all meta accounts. Otherwise, keep your Facebook account if you think you’ll be using FB market in the future. You could just disable your account temporarily, and re-activate your account when you want to go on FB market. An alternative would be Gumtree, which works the same way as FB Market, except you don’t need a social media profile.
