Great news. F-Droid has long been under-staffed and lacked funding (ex) to drive improvements. The FOSS projects I run donate a small percentage (from surplus) to downstream FOSS projects, but of course, it is no where near enough for initiatives the size & complexity of F-Droid (even if ALL dependent projects hosted by it did so).[1]
And so, orgs like OTF (and NLNet, Mozilla Grants etc) are a net good for the entire open software / hardware / communications / Internet ecosystem. Also, folks at OTF are incredibly thorough and technical; (from experience) they don’t disburse grants willy-nilly.
Previously, the Trump admin went after OTF: https://www.eff.org/press/releases/eff-court-trump-appointees-removal-open-technology-fund-leadership-unlawfu
This time around, hopefully OTF survives DOGE.
